Today Tilly Met a Jellyfish Older Than the T-Rex
A Postcard from Tilly to Polar Boutique HQ

Sent from somewhere on Canada's beautiful East Coast
Dear Paulette & Jemma,
Today I met the most beautiful purple jellyfish.
She drifted through the water so gently that she looked like she was dancing.
"Hello!" I called.
"Hello," replied the jellyfish.
Tilly smiled. "You're beautiful."
"Thank you," said the jellyfish.
"I've never met a jellyfish before."
The jellyfish smiled. "I'm pleased to meet you too."
Just then, my Great Blue Heron friend landed on a nearby rock.
"You've made a very special new friend today, Tilly," he said.
"I have?" asked Tilly.
The heron nodded. "Jellyfish have been drifting through Earth's oceans for hundreds of millions of years."
Tilly looked back at the jellyfish. "Really?"
The jellyfish nodded. "My family has been drifting through these oceans since before the dinosaurs."
Tilly froze. "BEFORE THE DINOSAURS?!"
The jellyfish nodded again.
Tilly's eyes grew even wider. "Before the T-Rex?"
"Yes."
"Before the Triceratops?"
"Yes."
Tilly looked out across the ocean. "So while dinosaurs were stomping around on land..."
"...my family was gently drifting through the sea," finished the jellyfish.
Tilly smiled. "That's amazing."
The jellyfish drifted a little closer. "We've seen our oceans change many, many times."
Tilly watched her new friend float gently with the waves. Finally, she smiled.
"I don't think I'll ever look at a jellyfish the same way again."
See you on my next adventure!

| 🪼 Tilly's Real Jellyfish Fact
Everything Tilly discovered in today's postcard is inspired by real jellyfish. 🪼 Jellyfish have existed for more than 500 million years, making them much older than the mighty Tyrannosaurus rex. 🪼 They don't have a brain, heart, or bones, yet they've survived on Earth for hundreds of millions of years. 🪼 Jellyfish can be found in oceans all around Canada, including along the Atlantic and Pacific coasts. |
Thanks for reading and exploring Canada with us today.
