A Postcard from Tilly

Sent somewhere between a snowy trail and a coffee stop
Dear Paulette & Jemma,
Just checking in before my next adventure.
I’m currently sitting near a snowy window somewhere in Canada with cold paws, a warm drink, and approximately three crumbs in my scarf from the cookie I said I was “saving for later.”
Winter is still very much happening here. Canadians are outside pretending they aren’t cold while wearing giant dark coats and carrying coffees the size of flower pots. Some are already talking about escaping somewhere warm. I overheard someone say, “I’m done with winter,” while standing in line for skates and hot chocolate. Very confusing behaviour.
Personally? I still like winter.I’m a polar bear. It would be awkward if I didn’t.
The good news is people are starting to slow down a little. You can feel it. The rush after the holidays is fading and people are settling back into real life again — snowbanks, grocery runs, comfort food, and asking themselves questions like:
“Do I really need to answer that email tonight?”
I think winter is good for that.
Last week I wandered through a holiday market with twinkle lights everywhere. I saw mittens, handmade candles, maple treats, knitted hats, and one very serious Canadian goose who looked like security. I kept my distance.
I also met:
• a woman carrying six bags and one tiny dog
• a grandfather teaching his granddaughter how to skate
• someone who dropped their BeaverTail and looked genuinely heartbroken
• and a moose-shaped cookie that honestly looked a little too realistic
Canada is never boring. That’s what I keep trying to tell people.
Anyway, I should go. I’ve been invited to a snowshoe walk, and someone mentioned that snacks will be provided. You know I can’t ignore important opportunities like that.

Please tell everyone at Polar Boutique HQ that I’m doing well and still reminding people to slow down once in a while.
And maybe remind them that adventure doesn’t always mean plane tickets and big plans. Sometimes it’s just saying yes to a winter walk, a roadside café, or an extra hour under a blanket while the snow falls outside.
Warm paws,
Tilly
